Back AGAIN by popular demand. What happens when Salsa meets Waltz? It turns out that the moves and movement that make Salsa so popular are easily adapted to Waltz - and the outcome is a beautiful, unique, and flowing dance form. This class was offered in the previous two sessions and has received rave reviews. We will be reviewing material from previous classes and exploring a few new moves. Prerequisite: Waltz 1 and/or Salsa 1.

On our recent teaching trip to Stanford University we danced with hundreds of college kids who absolutely loved to travel (often spinning) around the floor doing Waltz, Polka, Schottische, etc. - to virtually all current music. We will be using Blues, Rock, Techno, Symphonic, and other music for this class. If you ask Twyla and Celina to list their favorite dances, most of them will be turning dances. Please join us to learn some of the most euphoric dances in existence. We will slowly but surely help you learn to turn without getting dizzy. I (Walter) have taught thousands of people (literally) in the Seattle area to spin around the dance floor with a partner.

You will be amazed at how playful you can be with Swing, mixing in Blues, traveling around the dance floor, etc. We will explore new Swing moves and discover how to seamlessly bridge between "different" dance forms.

This is probably the most useful and fun dance in our culture, and is the best place to begin partner dancing. Most local bands play Swing, and there is an immense variety of Swingable music. No Prerequisite.

Swing 2: Double-time . . . .3:30 - 4:45pm

There is a large collection of music that is somewhere between triple-time and single-time Swing tempos. Double-time Swing is a very fun step variation that will greatly enhance your enjoyment of Swing dancing. The new moves we will do in this class also function well in the Swing basics you already know.

Essentially modern Foxtrot, or Waltz in 4/4 time, this smooth and romantic dance is probably the most useful dance on earth. We found that dancers in Western Cuba did Salsa very much like our Nightclub Two-step. We use a variety of music from Pop to Blues to Latin. Prerequisite: Any basic partner dance class or instructor permission.

Coupeville Classes

Location: Coupeville Rec. Hall, 901 NW Alexander St., from Hwy. 525 go east on Main St. & jog left on Coveland.  Note: The July 14 class will meet at the Four Square Church, at the corner of Hwy. 525 and Broadway.

A few years back my daughters and I traveled to Havana, Cuba and studied a unique and fun style of Salsa with a wonderful dancer who also sings in a Salsa band. In Cuba, music and dance are not separate. Cuban Salsa is smooth and quick, and dancers world-wide integrate its unique movement into their own regional styles. Prerequisite: Salsa 1 or equivalent.

This dance form could be called Modern Foxtrot or Waltz in 4/4 time - smooth and romantic. We will do a thorough review of level one material and then float into more fun and flowing moves. Prerequisite: Nightclub Two-step 1
