Whidbey Island Classes

Walter, Twyla, & Celina Dill are departing on Sept. 9 for a 3 month trip in Europe -
details here.

Upcoming South Whidbey Classes
with Janice Eklund & Linda Bainbridge
Location: Deer Lagoon Grange, 5147 Bayview Rd., 1 mile from Hwy. 525 towards Langley.
6 Thursdays: Sept. 10 - Oct. 15

Waltz 2.25 . . . . . 6:30-7:30pm
New demo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpw6ImA6N_8
It is the intention of this class to help you "let go" and dance inside the music...not your head. Rather than worrying so much about foot placement and the numbers, we will work on the details that make a dance flow...the hesitations, swoops & swirls etc. that give us the style we are after (while still having fun!). We will create a fun & safe environment for you to explore that softer side of dance. Prerequisite: Waltz .

Nightclub Two-step 2.25 . . . . .7:45-8:45pm
We did a new demo, but used a Michael Jackson tune. YouTube seems to have blocked the clip.
demo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr3DuL8-0tg
There is a huge variety of music for Nightclub Two-step. It is truly one of the most versatile dances. We will begin the process of discovering the musicality and styling that can make the dance seem fresh with each varied tempo. Does the music make you want to bounce or be smooth as silk? How do you change the character of the steps you know to reflect that? We'll look at a few lovely transitions that can make the process seamless. We can become the dancers we love to watch! Join us..
Prerequisite: NC2-step 2, or 1 with instructor permission.

Upcoming Coupeville Classes
with Janice Eklund & Fred Strong
Location: Coupeville Rec. Hall,
at the corner of Alexander and Coveland Streets, one block from waterfront.
6 Mondays: Sept. 21 - Oct . 26

Nightclub Two-step 2 . . . . . 6:30-7:30pm
We did a new demo, but used a Michael Jackson tune. YouTube seems to have blocked the clip.
demo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr3DuL8-0tg
Nightclub Two Step is a favorite for many (especially Janice & Fred) because it is so versatile. It is essentially modern Foxtrot and fits many kinds of music. Learn new and fun variations, and how to be fluid and connected. Prerequisite: NC2-step 1

West Coast Swing 1. . . . . 7:45-8:45pm
demo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NATGPCBn0gI
OK Coupeville, we know you love all the forms of East Coast Swing. Now let’s slow it down and smooth it out with West Coast Swing using the slower tempos of R&B, Rock, Funk, and more. Once you get the basics, there’s lots of room for creativity. The dance mixes both 6 and 8 count moves, so it is a great place to hone those lead and follow skills. People on the south end of Whidbey have been enjoying this dance for quite a while..now it's your turn.Prerequisite: Swing 2 or instructor permission

We have choices in how we move (dance) through life:
to compete (fight), to disengage, or to collaborate (dance).
Our focus is to dance.

Dance is a state of mind.
